Here is one of the many reasons I love Maine.
I live in a small town on the coast of Maine. The Niblic (https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Niblic/176345369117001) a small, sweet store on the nearest island carries my products.
The first time it was time to ship packages, the owner said to just put them on the ferry over. I was a little skeptical since there would be no UPS tracking or anything, but I went down to the dock and was soon in conversation with several of the islanders waiting for the ferry. One of them offered to take the packages over and deliver them to the store. I had never met this person; I took a leap of faith and handed over the packages. When I called the store owner to tell her that Mr. So-and-so was going to bring her packages, she was delighted and not surprised at all. Since then, with no fail, there is always a friendly and helpful island passenger who volunteers to take the packages over. I just love that- in this day and age, to find such a lovely community where people look out for each other and help where they can.
I also love being able to bicycle down to the ferry and ship off my products- it’s such a great feeling to have made a product, knowing that it’s not mass-produced and it hasn’t travelled around the globe using up a tremendous amount of fossil fuels to reach the customer!
